GENERAL SUMMARY
A Designer is responsible for providing space planning, furniture recommendations, and finish options.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with account teams to develop a clear understanding of what is required for each project.
- Work with account team to create product layouts and options as tools to assist clients in determining furniture standards.
- Provide programming and space planning resources to the client to find the best furntirue layout and solutions.
- Create finish selection boards.
- Create 3D line drawings to finalize selections and obtain client approval.
- Submit for CR’s from Teknion when custom products are required to meet client needs.
- Compile project information to enable large project specification to be completed by CAD Specifier.
- Create design binders and client standards binders as necessary.
- Coordinate completion of 3D renderings.
- Obtain client approval on typicals, block plans, and fabric-finish forms.
- Perform research on ancillary products and make recommendations for account teams.
- Perform on-site architectural field verifications with account teams as necessary.
- Provide ancillary product drawings of non-Teknion product.
- Prepare drawings/furniture layouts for projects utilizing knowledge of AutoCAD, Design Express and furniture systems. Provide modifications as required.
- Follow SideMark formats for graphic standards. (i.e. title blocks, file-naming conventions and layering).
- Provide complete layouts and detailed furniture specifications from workstation typicals and block plans.
- Provide team feedback on specification concerns and product application issues.
- Research product applications.
- Update plans with changes and prepare for specification check.
- Obtain detailed information on tagging and SIF files to ensure that product arrives as required.
- Update plans from specification checks and prepare for final BOM and SIF file.
- Work with IT to update all Design Express catalogs and ensure use of current versions of all software.
- Provide specifications as needed.
- Perform specification checking.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience with Teknion or a major furniture system manufacturer (Herman Miller, Steelcase, Haworth, Knoll).
- Produced furniture systems specification and installation drawings.
- Professional design experience within a dealership for minimum 5 years.
- Proficiency in CAP Studio and Sketchup.
- Proficiency in current release of AutoCAD required.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Windows: Excel and Outlook.Demonstrate attention to detail and team philosophy.
- Strong written and oral communications.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree (BA) or certificate in Interior Design or related field; 5 years CAD and/or design experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
